I’m not really a kitchen person, because I find the cleaning up after cooking quite tiresome. So before this week, I never really cooked on my own. I didn’t follow a recipe making these two dishes, but just by feeling and memory of the taste of how mom would make them.
Stir Fried Pepper and Pork
Pan Fried Tofu in Soy Sauce
To some people, cooking seems like a simple task, and many think that by following the instructions on the recipe, you will get the same thing you see in the picture. Noooooope. Little surprises can happen while you are cooking, and they often occur and cause an immediate unexpected result when you don’t notice.
Just like today, it’s my first time pan-frying steak. I thought it would be simple, after all, all you need to do is put the steak in the pan. Everything was going well, the sides looked a good brown, and the steak felt tender when I poked it. I cut it a bit to check the insides, to see if it was also still nice and red inside, yes.
I went to the get plates, and came back to check on my steak. They were well done.
It’s not the first time I’m disappointed by the outcome of my cooking, but I’ve learned that cooking is no easy task, every detail, and every minute (or even second) is important. Salute to all chefs, cooking friends and my mom.
